Governor Jenniffer González-Colón Announces Introduction of Legislation in Congress to Extend the Temporary Increase of the Rum Tax Cover-Over

As Congress begins work on a budget reconciliation and tax reform package, Governor Jenniffer Gonzalez-Colón announced today that Representatives Ron Estes (R-Kansas) and Stacey Plaskett (D-U.S. Virgin Islands) have introduced bipartisan legislation to temporarily increase the amount of funding transferred to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands from the excise taxes collected on rum produced in the two territories and imported in to the rest of the United States, commonly known as the rum cover-over. The bill would extend the increase through 2032 and make it retroactive to January 1, 2022.

Governor Jenniffer González-Colón Welcomes Reintroduction of Legislation in Congress to Strengthen the Fight Against Drug Trafficking in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Region

Our Mission

PRFAA

The Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) dedicates to the task of ably representing and advancing the interests of the Government of Puerto Rico before federal, state, and local governments. As the Office of the Governor of Puerto Rico, PRFAA is focused on promoting Puerto Rico’s economic and public policy initiatives to achieve a better quality of life for our citizens. In carrying out its responsibilities, PRFAA works closely with agencies throughout the Government of Puerto Rico, as well as with Puerto Rico legislative leaders, mayors and other stakeholders to serve as a liaison between the Federal Government, Congress and The White House.

Like other states, PRFAA’s focus areas include economic stimulus and development, transportation funding, energy, healthcare including Medicare and Medicaid, as well as issues that affect veterans and our national defense.
