(Tuesday, July 20, 2021 – Washington, DC) “I thank President Biden for his continued commitment towards Puerto Rico. The Biden-Harris Administration has reaffirmed their support to the people of Puerto Rico by expediting and providing access to federal recovery funds and assistance with onerous regulations that hindered the island’s long-term recovery.
The White House has also reiterated its support for Puerto Rico by including language in the President’s budget that eliminates the Medicaid funding caps for Puerto Rico and seeks equal treatment of other federal programs such as the Supplemental Nutritional Assistant Program (SNAP) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
President Biden’s Puerto Rico Working Group will lead his administration’s efforts to provide the Island support for a full recovery, including a comprehensive infrastructure reconstruction, economic development, support for families, relief from unsustainable debt, and expansion of access to education and workforce initiatives.
I am confident that their work will help transform Puerto Rico’s socioeconomic future. I will continue working hand-in-hand on behalf of the people of Puerto Rico with our federal allies and members of the Puerto Rico Working Group, led by Julie Chávez Rodríguez, Brian Deese, and Susan Rice.
President Biden has taken concrete actions to ensure Puerto Rico is a priority during his Presidency. President Biden and Vice President Harris have made it clear the American citizens of Puerto Rico deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and I will hold them to that promise.”
