PRFAA Convenes Discussions Regarding The Revitalization Of The “Caño Martín Peña”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) Director Juan E. Hernández announced today that PRFAA has organized a group of visitors to Puerto Rico from U.S government, leaders of the Puerto Rican Diaspora, and important foundations with the purpose of advancing plans to dredge the “Caño Martín Peña” (CMP by its Spanish acronym) and the socioeconomic developments of surrounding communities. During November 8, 12 and 14, visitors will be meeting with CMP community leaders to give their intake on ways to reach their goals of dredging and revitalizing the CMP. These visits are the result of collaborative efforts between PRFAA’s Regional Office in New York, the “Proyecto ENLACE de Puerto Rico”, the U.S. Department of Housing, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Department of Health, and the Environmental Protection Agency. USDA Allocates Funds For The Development Of The Agricultural Sector In Puerto Rico

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) Director Juan E. Hernández announced today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) granted $524,511.15 to the P.R. Department of Agriculture to be used in nine projects focused on agricultural development. These funds are awarded under the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program and will be used to increase sales and product exposure by participating in national and international farmer’s markets and create advertising campaigns to promote local products (DelPaís) in the media. U.S. Treasury Awards $4.9 Million To The P.R. Economic Development Bank

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) Director Juan E. Hernández announced today that the U.S. Department of the Treasury gave $4,943,619 to the Puerto Rico Economic Development Bank (BDEPR by its Spanish initials). These funds were granted under the State Small business Credit Initiative Fund (SSBCI) to help local businesses access the capital they need to grow and create jobs. (more…)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, the Puerto Rico Economic Development and Commerce Department (DDEC by its Spanish initials) signed a collaborative agreement with the Medical Tourism Association (MTA) to provide formal training, education, and certification to all areas of the medical tourism sector and destination branding for the Caribbean and Latin America. USDA Grants Funds to Puerto Rico for Renewable Energy in Agriculture

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) Director Juan E. Hernández announced today the U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) awarded $163,000 to install solar system panels with the purpose of promoting energy independence through the use of solar panels as sources of renewable energy. Funds are granted under USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) and will be specifically directed to five Puerto Rican companies with the intention of promoting development and job creation in the agriculture sector. EPA Awards Funds to Identify and Reduce Air Pollution in Puerto Rico

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) Director Juan E. Hernández announced today that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) granted $120,000 to “Desarrollo Integral del Sur, Inc”, a company located in Peñuelas, Puerto Rico. Funds are granted under EPA’s Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving Cooperative Agreement Program and are directed to non-profit organizations with the purpose of developing and implementing solutions that address public health and or environmental issues in communities. U.S. Department of Health Assigns $4.3 Million to Expand Health Center Services in Puerto Rico

Hal Rogers (R-KY), Chair of the House Committee on Appropriations, presented today a joint resolution that authorizes appropriations for Fiscal Year 2015 through December 11, 2014 and certain modifications to the Fiscal Year 2014 enacted levels of $1.012 trillion in discretionary funding. PRFAA Participates in Training Workshops on Federal Proposals for Drug-Free Communities and Nonprofit Development

SAN JUAN, P.R. – Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) Director Juan E. Hernández participated today, along with Esteban Vélez, PRFAA’s Director of Federal Proposals, in two workshops focused on the elaboration of federal proposals in the municipalities of San Juan and Carolina. The first one, “How to Prepare Federal Proposals for Drug-Free Communities”, was organized by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and the second one, organized by the Nonprofit Institute, focused on promoting economic development for nonprofit organizations. These workshops were held with the intention of providing assistance to design adequate federal proposals that allow nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and all those involved in community mobilization with the end purpose of preventing the use of controlled substances to effectively obtain the necessary funds.
