Over $1 million in funds for Section 8 housing program in Puerto Rico

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) Director Juan E. Hernández announced today that the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) granted a total of $1,021,962 to Puerto Rico. This allocation is granted as part of HUD funds given to finance public housing under Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program. (more…)

PRFAA Director meets with realtors to discuss the F.H.A. program and the H.R. 616

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) Director Juan E. Hernández met today in his office with a group of representatives from the real estate sector in Puerto Rico. During the meeting, they discussed important issues related to the real estate industry on the Island. The Realtors representatives requested PRFAA's support to improve the F.H.A. program and the H.R. 616 bill, among others.

U.S. Department of Health grants $2.8 million for better access to health services in Puerto Rico

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) Director Juan E. Hernández announced today that the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) granted $2,819,231 for the provision of comprehensive primary health care services in communities located in the interior part of the Island. These funds, allocated under the Affordable Care Act, will be disbursed to five health care centers in the municipalities of Ponce, Hatillo, Caguas, Mayagüez, and Naranjito, which serve around 10,319 patients. USDA announces $225 million in discretionary funding available for natural resources conservation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) Director Juan E. Hernández announced today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has $225 million in discretionary funding available for environmental conservation projects in the United States and Puerto Rico. The grant opportunity announced today, aims to create and support innovative partnerships focused on developing projects to improve water quality, fight drought, improve soil health, wildlife habitat, and protect agricultural viability.  These funds are available through the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP), one of the most recent conservation programs created under the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Applicants have until July 8, 2015 to submit pre-proposals. (more…)

U.S. Department of Health grants $1.3 million for domestic violence prevention in Puerto Rico

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) Director Juan E. Hernández announced today that the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) granted $1,309,577 to the Puerto Rico Department of Family Affairs. These funds are granted under the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA), with which HHS seeks to strengthen the different Domestic Violence Coalitions dedicated to the support of emergency shelter and related assistance for victims of domestic violence and their dependents. U.S. House of Representatives poised to approve $8.1 million in funds to the Corps of Engineers for projects in Puerto Rico

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) Director Juan E. Hernández announced today that the United States House of Representatives is poised to pass this week the H.R. 2028, known as the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, which assigns $8.1 million to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for infrastructure projects in Puerto Rico. This allocation of funds will be used by the Corps of Engineers to conduct a feasibility study for improvements to the channel of the Bay of San Juan, operations and maintenance of the Bay, and continuity of construction projects in the Puerto Nuevo River. U.S. Department of Agriculture grants $141,185 to rural schools in Puerto Rico

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA) Director Juan E. Hernández announced today that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) granted $141,185 to rural schools in Puerto Rico as part of the Congressional two-year reauthorization of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act. The award disbursed by the Forest Service, part of the USDA, is part of funds distributed to rural schools with the intention of promoting the development of self-sustaining and prosperous communities.
